Navigating This Time of COVID-19

Dearest DIVAS and the people who love us, Just like you, we have been anxiously observing the silent spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) since its outbreak in Wuhan, China to Italy, and the United States as an alarming global pandemic. Our hearts are with all the countries who have lost citizens and the families who have lost loved ones. To Italy and Spain, we express our sincerest condolences to your nation and its people. Right here at home, and particularly in the states of Washington, New York, and Louisiana that are experiencing surges in infections, hospitalizations, and loss of life...we, at The D.I.V.A. Foundation, send our love and pray that your voices raised in song continue to give you the harmony of peace. The World Health Organization (WHO) says Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus. The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu but worse) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact, staying 6 feet away from people. Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. Here at The D.I.V.A. Foundation, our response is always to increase and raise awareness. The WHO has given us tips and guidelines to follow. You may access them here: https://www.who.int/news-room/q-a-detail/q-a-coronaviruses . The D.I.V.A.Foundation encourages you to:

  • WASH YOUR HANDS OFTEN AND WELL

  • STAY AT HOME

  • PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING

  • TAKE SELF QUARANTINE SERIOUSLY

  • HOLD ON TO HOPE AND FIND WAYS TO BE KINDER TO EACH OTHER.

Together we can beat Corona and increase the survival rate. Let us find creative ways to survive without causing harm to others.  Eat well, drink your water, take your vitamins and look out for the least among us who are susceptible to this disease and may need help. We must come together, organize, strategize and put in the good work for survival, like we did when HIV/AIDS was on the rise.

We are here for you with LOVE!

Yours in service,

Sheryl Lee Ralph
